August offering
Croeso beautiful being
charcoal and pastel drawing
In this August offering, you may find some resonance with my reflections on systemic injustice, accompanied by something I drew after the passing of a dear friend.
What we are witnessing today, for me, is the same shit, different day – lies, excuses, the blame game, inaccuracy, obfuscation, systemic violence, the perpetual dodging of facts, and the superficial inquiries that lead nowhere.
Have you cottoned on to the age-old political hack prioritising ideological power, loyalties, and profit over institutional accountability to the people? Once thinly veiled, these agendas are becoming more and more obvious, thus making a complete farce of everything that Western democracy is meant to stand for – is it not?
This is what’s been on my mind – along with the deepening concern of who will have access to natural resources when they become scarce before a returning cycle of abundance. It is becoming increasingly obvious to me that class and race will have a part to play in their distribution. Perhaps this will be the binding of the many?
It is with this in mind that I share this drawing, which for me is a metaphor for personal and collective grief. Our burdens are many, but small individual actions do make a difference in lighting up the load.
